Fellowship in Cardiac and Thoracic Radiology, Royal Papworth Hospital

Royal Papworth Hospital is the United Kingdom’s leading heart and lung hospital, the East of England Regional Centre for cardiothoracic services and has an international reputation for innovation, research, teaching and excellent patient care. In July 2019, RPH became the first Trust in England to achieve “Outstanding” in all 5 domains of the CQC survey.  Diagnostic Imaging also achieved an overall “Outstanding” rating.

Specialist services include pulmonary hypertension (RPH is the National Centre for Pulmonary Endarterectomy surgery), cardiac and pulmonary transplantation, cystic fibrosis, interstitial lung disease, extracorporeal membranous oxygenation (ECMO), thoracic oncology, cardiothoracic surgery and interventional cardiology encompassing electrophysiology and transcatheter valve insertion. The radiology department is a key component in the multidisciplinary teams within the hospital and our fellows are actively encouraged to become involved in these teams as part of their training with us.

The radiology department is very well equipped with state-of-the-art equipment including two Siemens Force CT scanners, Siemens Aera (1.5T) & Prisma (3.0T) cardiac optimised CMR systems and also a GE SPECT-CT system for Nuclear imaging.

This post will provide excellent experience in all aspects of non-invasive cardiac and both non-invasive and interventional thoracic radiology. There are opportunities for audit, research, and teaching and as a department we are very supportive of our fellows developing in these areas.

Radiology Cardiothoracic Fellowship/StR Post

The post is available for a period of 12 months commencing in August or September 2023. Consideration will be given for other start dates. The post is suitable for trainees who hold a current NTN. Those who are interested without an NTN, or who are post CCT could be appointed as a LAS or Trust Clinical Fellow. Specialist Registrars currently enrolled in a UK training programme (other than the East of England Deanery), who wish to retain their National Training Number (NTN) whilst at Papworth, should discuss ‘out-of-programme-training’ (OOPT) with their Training Programme Director.

For an informal discussion, please contact Dr Angela Tasker on 01223 639449 or by  email Angela.Tasker1@nhs.net.
