Requirements:
- Performed and interpreted 50 Cardiac CT Cases under supervision evidenced by:
- Logbook of 50 cases AND
- Verification of Hands on Practice form
- Evidence of 8 hours of Continuing Professional Development specific to Cardiac CT
- A letter verifying your status as a Consultant or Specialist Registrar (or equivalent) in Radiology, Cardiology or Cardiothoracic Surgery from your Head of Department, Human Resources or Medical Director.
Further information:
- The cardiac CT cases should have been performed during normal clinical practice rather than on a course. The applicant should have been involved in choice of scan protocol, patient preparation, study acquisition, analysis and report production. No more than 5 cases may be solely non-contrast studies.
- Logbooks should be submitted in Excel or similar forms. The minimum information required in the logbook is scan indication, method of acquisition, findings and total dose-length product.
- The Verification of Hands on Practice form should be downloaded, completed and submitted. This should be signed by a practitioner accredited to the standard of BSCI/BSCCT Level 2 Experienced or Level 3 standard, SCCT Level 3 or EACVI Level 3. At the discretion of the Accreditation Committee, practitioners accredited by other societies may also be considered eligible. If there is no person with such accreditation who can sign this form then the applicant should submit a letter from the head of department on departmental headed paper, which includes the same statement of verification.
- Evidence of 8 hours Continuing Professional Developmentshould include, but not be limited to:
- Technical principles of cardiac CT and its application to imaging the heart
- Different ECG gating techniques, their advantages and limitations
- Radiation dose inherent in cardiac CT as well as dose reduction strategies
- Contrast kinetics, administration, contraindications and complications
- Cardiac anatomy and physiology as applicable to CT
- Techniques of image reconstruction and post-processing
- Techniques to minimize and reduce image artefacts
- Cardiovascular risk assessment
- Current indications and applications of cardiac CT
- Basics of cardiac CT interpretation
- Normal anatomy of the heart & thorax
- This CPD activity can be accumulated from conferences attended, in-house training or online training e.g. BSCI/BSCCT online education platform (Moodle website), but it must be supported by CPD certificates. If the submitted CPD certificates relate to general or multi-stream meetings, the onus is on the applicant to detail the lectures and modules attended relevant to this application.The applicant will then be credited an appropriate proportion of the CPD value of the meeting certificate.
