I graduated in 1994 from the Goethe University in Frankfurt a.M./Germany and following junior doctor positions in Cardiothoracic surgery and Cardiology in Frankfurt, Freiburg and Ludwigshafen I completed a SHO rotation in Blackpool (1997-1999) and obtained my RCP membership in 1999. Thereafter, I performed a PhD in Cardiff combining applied physiology and nuclear cardiology techniques to assess venous capacitance in heart failure. Subsequently I finalised my Cardiology training in the North West Rotation complemented by an OOP Imaging Fellowship at the Glenfield Hospital in Leicester where I truly benefitted from multi-disciplinary supervision by 2 Cardiologists and 3 Radiologists (Gerry McCann, Derek Chin, Richard Coulden, Chris Reek and Richard Keal) receiving training in advanced Echo, CMR, SPECT and cCT. Since 2008 I work as an Imaging Cardiologist at Wythenshawe, now part of the University Hospital of Manchester, where I set up and lead a busy cross-sectional cardiac imaging service (>4000 CMR [annual growth 16%] and 2000 cCT [annual growth 41%]) providing cross-sectional Imaging services for GM and RACPAC support for 4 GM Hospitals. Besides my clinical duties as a Cardiologist on the non-interventional Rota, I acted initially as an LNC member and subsequently as the LNC chair from 2012-2018 during a challenging time which saw the creation of the Manchester wide single Hospital service (SHS) as part of the Manchester Locality plan under Devolution Manchester. Since December 2018 I am the Medical Staff Governor for MFT, the largest NHS Trust in the UK.

I have been an active BSCMR Board member (2012-2018) and been a very active trainer and educator organising and participating in local, national, and international Cardiac cross-sectional imaging meetings. I have an active research portfolio in both Cardiac MR and more recently Cardiac CT, have supervised 5 successfully completed PhD projects, published >100 scientific manuscripts and contributed to over £6 Million research income. My current interests are Cardio-oncology (minimising the harmful effects of chemotherapy and RTX to improve long term survivorship), primary Cardiomyopathies (optimising risk prediction and treatment of primary heart muscle disorders), and applying modern technologies and informatics (Radiomics) to optimise our understanding of genotype- phenotype associations in CAD.

In my free time I like to ski, play tennis, ride my motorbike and spend time with my boys.
