Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Fellow, University of Edinburgh

Cardiology Trainee, Wessex

After reading Medical Sciences at Christ’s College, Cambridge, Alastair completed his clinical training at King’s College London School of Medicine. He is a Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Fellow in hybrid cardiovascular imaging at the University of Edinburgh and the principal investigator for the PRE18FFIR study, a multi-centre observational study using 18F-fluoride positron emission tomography CTCA to identify high-risk individuals following acute myocardial infarction.  His research interests include the application of multi-modality imaging to better understand the molecular pathophysiology of cardiovascular disease.

In addition to being a founding member and cardiology co-chair of the BSCI/BSCCT trainee committee, he represents the interests of cardiac CT and nuclear cardiology on the BJCA imaging council. His clinical role includes co-ordinating the structural heart imaging programme for Scotland with a particular interest in transcatheter valve imaging.
