Dr Simon P.G. Padley, BSc, MBBS, MRCP, FRCR.

Dr Simon Padley is the Director of Radiology at the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospital and at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS FTs.  He is a Reader in Imaging in the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College, London. He received his medical undergraduate education at Westminster Medical School. His specialist radiology training was at Addenbrooke's Hospital and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and he undertook a fellowship in thoracic imaging at Vancouver General Hospital.  He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, member of the European Society of Thoracic Imaging, British Society of Thoracic Imaging, Society of Cardiovascular CT, British Society of Cardiovascular Imaging, CIRSE and ESR. 

Clinical Practice

Dr Padley is a cardiac and thoracic radiologist, as well as an interventional radiologist. Dr Padley co-initiated the cardiac CT programme at the Royal Brompton Hospital and is the trust lead for cancer imaging. He provides interventional radiology services related to lung cancer and vascular intervention. His technical skills include complex lung intervention, including biopsy, fiducial marker placement, radiofrequency and microwave ablation, endovascular stenting, venous access and bronchial artery embolisation.

Research Interests and Peer Reviewed Publications Dr Padley has a record in imaging research, extending over 20 years, and resulting in more than 130 peer reviewed publications on a variety of imaging and interventional related subjects. Recently, the majority of his academic output has related to the growing utility of cardiac CT in the adult and a paediatric population.

Educational activity

Dr Padley has extensive teaching commitments in radiology and supervises MD and BSc students. As well as his peer reviewed output, Dr. Padley has delivered more than 60 invited presentations as a faculty member at academic meetings, written multiple review articles, 35 book chapters and has co-authored one book 'Cardiovascular Computed Tomography'.
